A ceramic coating is a liquid nano-ceramic product that chemically bonds to a vehicle's clear coat and cures into a hard, transparent protective layer. The coating resists UV radiation, chemical etching and road salt. The coating repels water, causing it to bead and sheet off the surface rather than sit on it.
Glam Detailing is a licensed Ceramic Pro installer. Glam Detailing applies Ceramic Pro coatings in Calgary at the customer's own location — a driveway, a workplace lot, or a parkade — rather than requiring a shop drop-off. Glam Detailing supplies its own water and power for every application.
Wax sits on paint and lasts weeks. A ceramic coating bonds to paint and lasts years. That is the whole distinction, and it is why preparation matters more than the product: a coating is optically clear, so it preserves the surface exactly as it finds it.

Lower UpkeepA ceramic coating in Calgary costs between $750 and $1,950 at Glam Detailing, depending on the protection period and vehicle size. Every price below is the full installed cost — decontamination, clay bar, panel wipe, application and cure included, at your location. Paint correction, if your vehicle needs it, is quoted separately after we assess the paint.
Best for a vehicle you plan to sell within a few years, or a first coating to see how you get on with the maintenance routine.
The balance point for most Calgary owners — enough protection period to cover five winters of road salt, at roughly $20 a month over its life.
For a vehicle you intend to keep long term, or a new car you want protected from day one before the clear coat sees a Calgary winter.
Vehicle size is measured by panel area, not badge — a crew-cab pickup and a three-row SUV both fall in the full-size band. If you are unsure which band your vehicle sits in, send the make and model through the quote form and we will confirm before you commit to anything.
Ceramic coating is worth paying for on a vehicle you intend to keep for several years, park outdoors, and are willing to wash regularly. It is not worth paying for on a lease you hand back in eighteen months, on paint you are not willing to correct first, or as a way to stop washing your car.
The Calgary-specific case is straightforward. Road salt and de-icing brine sit on unprotected clear coat from November through April — roughly six months of chemical exposure every year. Add the highest annual sunshine of any major Canadian city and chinook freeze-thaw cycling, and Calgary paint ages faster than the same vehicle's paint in Vancouver or Halifax.
Where the money actually comes back:
Where it does not pay: as an alternative to correcting damaged paint, on a vehicle heading to auction next month, or if your washing routine is an automated brush wash. That last one will marr a coated surface just as it marrs an uncoated one.
There are four real drawbacks, and any installer who tells you otherwise is selling rather than advising: a coating locks in existing defects, it does not stop rock chips, it does not eliminate washing, and the upfront cost only pays back over years.
The coating is optically clear. It does not fill, hide or correct swirl marks, scratches, water spots or oxidation — it seals them under a hard layer for the life of the coating. This is why paint correction is quoted separately and why we assess the paint before quoting. A coating applied over neglected paint is an expensive way to make the neglect permanent.
Coatings are measured in microns. A stone off Deerfoot at highway speed does not care. Chip protection requires physical film, not a chemical layer. If rock chips on the hood and front bumper are your main concern, paint protection film is the answer and a coating is the complement to it, not the substitute.
A coating makes washing easier and less frequent. It does not make it optional. Road salt left on a coated panel for a month still etches. Automated brush washes still inflict swirls. The maintenance routine changes; it does not disappear.
$750 to $1,950 is meaningful money against a $40 bottle of wax. It pays back across years of ownership through resale value, reduced washing effort and no reapplication cycle — but if you are selling the vehicle inside a year, it does not pay back at all. We will say so.
These three solve different problems and are not substitutes for each other. Wax is short-term gloss. A coating is long-term chemical and UV protection. Paint protection film is physical impact protection. The most protected vehicles use film on the impact zones and a coating over everything.

Practical guidance for a Calgary daily driver: if you can do one thing, coat the vehicle — salt and UV cause more cumulative damage here than stone chips do. If chips on the front end already bother you, film the hood, fenders and mirrors and coat the rest.
The work is 90% preparation and 10% application. The coating itself takes a fraction of the appointment. Everything before it determines whether the result lasts years or fails in months.
We apply coatings at homes, workplaces and parkades across Calgary, arriving with our own water and power. What we need from you is a suitable environment — and we confirm that before booking rather than after arriving.
This is the one service where location genuinely matters. The coating needs controlled temperature, low humidity and no wind-borne dust during application and curing. An open driveway in a Calgary March does not meet that standard, and any installer claiming it does is going to hand you a compromised result.
What works: an enclosed garage, an underground or covered parkade, a heated shop bay at your workplace. What sometimes works: a sheltered driveway in stable summer conditions. What does not: anywhere exposed during precipitation, high wind, or near-freezing temperatures.
Tell us where the vehicle will be when you request a quote and we will tell you honestly whether it is suitable. If it is not, we will suggest an alternative rather than proceeding anyway. This service is booked across one to two days for cure time, so getting the environment right the first time matters. We cover all of Calgary — NW, NE, SW, SE and downtown — as part of our mobile detailing service.

We offer 2-year, 5-year and lifetime packages. Actual performance depends on the product, how the vehicle is stored and driven, and the maintenance routine. Calgary is demanding — months of road salt, high annual UV, and chinook freeze-thaw cycling. A coating washed regularly with suitable products lasts markedly longer than one that is not.
A coating is a liquid layer bonded to the clear coat that provides hydrophobic behaviour, chemical and UV resistance, and gloss. PPF is a physical urethane film that absorbs rock chips and impact. They solve different problems and are not substitutes. Many owners film the high-impact front-end panels and coat the whole vehicle.
Not every vehicle does, but the paint must be assessed first. A coating is optically clear and seals in whatever is underneath it, so swirl marks, oxidation and scratches stay visible for the life of the coating. Correcting first is the difference between a coated car that looks new and one that looks exactly as it did, permanently.
Yes, in suitable conditions. We arrive with our own water and power. The coating needs controlled temperature, low moisture and no wind-borne dust during application and curing, so an enclosed garage or parkade is ideal. We confirm whether your location works before booking rather than after arriving.
Not automatically, but the location must provide suitable conditions. Cold temperatures, moisture, wind and precipitation all affect application and curing. A garage, parkade or covered workplace bay is ideal; a sheltered driveway can work in stable summer conditions. We assess this at quote stage.
Wash regularly with a pH-neutral shampoo using the two-bucket method, or a touchless wash. Avoid automated brush washes, harsh alkaline degreasers and abrasive tools. Remove road salt promptly through winter rather than letting it sit. A coating reduces how hard washing is; it does not remove the need for it.
No. Coatings are often described with a 9H hardness rating, which refers to a pencil-hardness test, not to automotive scratch resistance. A coating adds resistance to light marring and chemical etching. It will not stop rock chips, key scratches or brush-wash swirls.
Tell us the vehicle and where it will be. We'll confirm the size band, whether paint correction is needed, and whether your location is suitable — before you commit to anything.
